About MRanch
The Start
In the early years of the 21st century (my wife hates in when I talk in centuries), two adventurous souls crossed paths—one hailing from a quaint small oil/cattle town in Alberta and the other a proud natural-born Calgarian who attended university in the metropolis of Toronto. After saving diligently, we purchased our first property, where we poured our hearts into homesteading. By adding value to the land, we were able to sell it, which set the foundation for our small venture, MRanch.
While we both maintain off-ranch jobs, we are committed to the dream of full-time ranching, which we plan to pursue upon retirement. Our primary goal is to achieve self-sustainability across as many aspects of our lives as possible. Each day spent on the ranch, whether in the fields or with our livestock, fuels our passion and strengthens our resolve to create a thriving, sustainable ranch that we can proudly call our own.
How It's Going
As our family began to grow on our first property, we welcomed two beautiful children, with hopes for an adoption of another 1 or 2 in our future. This journey has allowed us to teach our children about life and nature in a truly organic way. We've since expanded our operation to include cattle and chicken eggs, with our kids actively involved in caring for the animals and collecting fresh eggs.
Community involvement holds great importance for us, as we believe in giving back and fostering connections with those around us. Watching both our ranch and our children flourish is arguably the most rewarding aspect of this lifestyle. Though ranching demands hard work and dedication, the fulfillment we derive from nurturing our family's growth and witnessing the beauty of nature makes every challenge worthwhile. We are committed to creating lasting memories and building a legacy that encourages our children to appreciate the simple joys of life.
The Future
The future of MRanch will be guided by innovation and a willingness to embrace generational change. We are excited to plan future enhancements that include a large, sustainable greenhouse, which will enable us to cultivate fresh produce year-round while minimizing our environmental footprint.
In addition, we are exploring the possibility of integrating wind power to complement our existing solar energy systems. This combination of renewable energy sources will help offset our power consumption on the grid.
By implementing these initiatives, we aim to create a harmonious balance between agricultural productivity and environmental stewardship. Our commitment to sustainable farming and ranching practices will ensure that MRanch remains a thriving, resilient operation for many generations to come.
